The nuisance of having to insert the key then turn it, just to get into your car, can be a hassle. Automatic door lock keys are one of the most convenient features of Volkswagen automobiles. With a simple press of a button, you can lock or unlock every door of your car and in some cases even pop the trunk or hatch. Although it can be a major inconvenience if the battery in the key dies, it is moderately easy to replace. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Flat head screwdriver Replacement battery Step by Step : 1 Note the crease on the logo side of the key. Grab the key with two hands and pull the key into two parts. 2 Take the piece of the key with the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons and pry it open with a flat head screwdriver. This part of the key will divide into two parts 3 Remove the old battery and replace it with a new one. 4 Snap the two halves back together covering the battery. Slide the two pieces of the key together. 5 Test each button on the key to make sure the battery works.

Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Stepladder or milk crate Nail punch Hammer Pliers Hexagonal wrench New car hinge Step by Step : 1 Open door and rest the bottom edge on a small stepladder, milk crate or several blocks of wood. 2 Locate the bottom door hinge on the door frame. Insert a nail punch into the bottom of the hinge under the bolt that secures the two sides of the hinge together. 3 Tap the nail punch, pushing the hinge pin up and through the hinge. 4 Remove the hinge pin by pulling it out of the hinge with a pair of pliers. Continue to support the door so it does not bend down and scratch the side of the car. 5 Remove bottom hinge with a hexagonal wrench. Loosen all four hinge screws. Set a new hinge in place, set new bolts into the mounting holes and tighten the bolts with the hexagonal wrench. Replace bushings if necessary by placing new bushings into the top hinge pin hole and squeezing them in place with pliers. 6 Line up both hinges. Slide new hinge pin into the bottom of the hinge. Tap the hinge pin with a hammer until it slides through the hinge pin hole and into position.
